On Friday, Teresa and I had the chance to attend the 25th Annual Kindergarten Conference. The theme of the conference was "The Arts as a Tool for Learning: Nurturing the Imagination of Children". The keynote speaker shared with us some wonderful ideas about incorporating the arts into literacy-based activities all the while the children are engaged in play! The first workshop I attended was all about music (we even got to play around with some Ukuleles). I learned some neat way the Integrated Arts Academy in Burlington uses music to teach concepts of math (such as with the beat counting, pairing children in groups during sons, etc) and how to keep children engaged in their learning through the experience of music. My second workshop was about Loose Parts which is something I am already a HUGE fan of. I love giving children a spattering of random objects and just seeing what it is they can construct from the abstract. I am definitely inspired and reinvigorated to up my loose-parts-game at preschool! It was a wonderful professional development opportunity and I enjoy attending as often as I can, but I also missed my sweet Friday friends and can't wait to connect with you all next week! XOXO Holly While I was away at the conference, Becky and Sue held down the fort. The children engaged in some house designing, train track construction (using ALL the tracks OH MY), and played babies and mamas. They were able to make it outside for a bit between rain showers where they made delicious outside-soup! Best of all for snack they enjoyed the "Famous French Toast Friday delight!"

Families,
Thank you so much for taking time out of your schedule to come in and sit down with us. We really appreciate the opportunity to chat with you one-on-one about your child's progress in our preschool program! Strong school-and-family relationships are very important to us. If you did not have a chance yet to meet, have no fear, just contact your child's teacher and figure out a time that works for you both! |
